Rochester scores late in third period, beats Manitoba 3-2 in shootout

WINNIPEG - Michel Ouellet scored both a power-play goal and a short-handed marker for the Manitoba Moose on Saturday night, but it wasn't enough in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Rochester Americans (11-22-0-3).

Down 2-1 late, Rochester's Stefan Meyer scored with five seconds left in the game to force overtime.

Manitoba's Jason Krog was the only shooter to score twice in the shootout. The teams went through 10 shooters each.

Manitoba goalie Karl Goehring stopped 14 shots in his 22nd game of the season.

Down a man at 11:40 of the first period, Krog and Ouellet broke into the Americans zone and Ouellet sniped the puck past Rochester goalie Mike Brodeur to score short-handed and put the Moose up by one.

Brodeur made 16 saves in the loss.

The Moose (22-11-0-2) hung onto their one-goal lead after 40 minutes of play.

The opening of the third period saw the Americans knot the game, as Cory Murphy netted his first of the season in his second game to put Rochester on the board.

It only took Ouellet 10 seconds into a power play to net his second of the night. With a pass from Krog, Ouellet took back the lead going top shelf on Brodeur.
