West, US earn early victories at World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

PORT ALBERNI, B.C. - Charles Inglis had a pair of special teams goals and added an assist to lead the West to a 4-2 victory over Quebec in opening-day action at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge on Monday.

Inglis scored the go-ahead goal while shorthanded at 8:26 of the second period, and added a power-play goal with 29 seconds left in the third to pace the West (1-0-0).

Dominick Favreau and Brooks Macek had the other West goals, while Calvin Pickard earned the win with a 31-save performance.

Yasin Cisse and Yoan Pinette each had a goal and an assist for Quebec (0-1-0).

In Monday's other early game, the U.S. (1-0-0) scored six times in the first period of a 12-1 drubbing of Finland (0-1-0) in Nanaimo, B.C.

Jacob Fallon, Nick Shore and Brandon Saad each had a pair of goals for the Americans, while Matthew Nieto, Justin Faulk, Adam Clendening, Jason Zucker, Michael Mersch and Bryan Rust added singles. All but five U.S. skaters finished with at least one point.

Marcus Nikander had the lone goal for the Finns.
