Report: NHLPA planning to file grievance over Avery suspension

Canadian sports network TSN is reporting the NHL Players' Association is planning to file a grievance over the six-game suspension handed down to Sean Avery Friday.

Executive director Paul Kelly is expected to point out a violation of the collective bargaining agreement when commissioner Gary Bettman handed Avery a summary suspension before a hearing was held.

According to TSN, the NHLPA will not seek to reduce the suspension, but establish rules that make sure that in the future, hearings take place.
