FRISCO, Texas - The Dallas Stars could be without captain Brenden Morrow for the rest of the season.

He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that will require surgery. Morrow is expected to be out as long as six months. The organization believes the 29-year-old forward will make a full recovery.

"We are obviously very disappointed to hear the news about Brenden's knee," Stars GM Les Jackson said in a release. "As our captain, he will obviously be missed, but we have every assurance that he can and will come back from this injury at 100 per cent.

"There is a lot of hockey left to be played this season, and we are confident our team will rally together and keep pushing."

Morrow was second in team scoring with 15 points (5-10) in 18 games this season.

Dallas recalled veteran forward Landon Wilson from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.

J H, Jessie, Bob Flair, and Matt. You may want to re-evaluate your opinions on the Stars season. I'm sure it was easy to dismiss the Stars chances after seeing Morrow sidelined for the season, but you fail to acknowledge the talent on the rest of the team. With D men like Daley, Sydor, and Robidas, young talent like Eriksson and Neal, and playmakers like Lehtinen, Richards, and Modano, the season has only just begun. As evidenced by their recent 5-game win streak and their current place in the standings (6th, although I think they'd be in 5th if they hadn't played 4 less games than Anaheim up until this point), they are the same team we saw take it all the way to the Conference Finals last season. They just had to find their feet after a bumpy start playing more than half of their games away from the AAC. I personally feel that the Stars are about the width of a goalpost away from being very serious Stanley Cup contenders.

So why is it taking Yahoo I wonder so long to get Morrow on to the IR ? Does he really still think he can play because he can still walk ? Yahoo must too.

Tough loss for the Stars,I understand Claude Lemiux might be interested, and he would give the team a different look, and would bring a pair to every gome.

With Brendan Morrow gone for the season or at least for a long period of time, Dallas is done for in my opinion. It all began with the signing of Avery which is the beginning of the end for the team. Time to blow it up and and start from scratch.

he took a run at a run at a Hawks player in the Stars end half way thru the 3rd period. Looked like they went knee to knee.

They don't have enough to 'rally around'. Guys like Zubov, Lethinen and Modano are still good players but can't, and shouldn't, be the guys to count on. Their d is not good enough and they just lost MORE grit with Morrow going down. Sure, it seemed like a good idea at the time to get Richards, but in the process you let go some good grit in Halpern. By signing Avery they couldn't hang onto Hagman. It will be interesting to see how managment handles this.

I can't find a story anywhere that explains what happened. I watched the Chicago game and didn't see or hear anything about him getting injured. Did he fall in the shower! Bye, bye first place in my pool.

i hate to see anyone hurt, but this is actually a positive for the stars. they have been absolutely awful this season, and this will provide a point around which the team can rally and win a few games. dallas is chock full of veteran talent- modano, lehtinen, zubov- they compensate, step up and steer this team back to respectability.

“I was coming in to take the boards away and had some good jump. He bobbled the puck at the last second and I don’t think he saw me coming at all. It was a shoulder right in his chest. He’s eight feet tall, so it’s not like you could hit him in the head.”
