Big bargain! Detroit Red Wings put some tickets on sale for $9

DETROIT - It would be hard to find better value anywhere in hockey.

The Detroit Red Wings are set to release $9 tickets for some of their December and January games. The defending Stanley Cup champions will put the tickets on sale Friday with a limit of four per customer.

The Red Wings are currently third in home attendance this season with an average of 19,753 over seven games at Joe Louis Arena. That's about 98 per cent of capacity.

Detroit will play 13 times on home ice over the next two months.

Bill, you obviously don't live in Detroit so maybe you don't see the headlines from this area. The headlines where everyday people are getting laid off by the bunches andtheir homes are being foreclosed on. People in this area love their hockey team, but sometimes you need to focus on priorities like keeping your house or feeding your kids..not going to a hockey game.

heres an idea. why dont all teams do this so they can all declare sellouts. boo hoo detriot. you people have been making 30-40 hr putting cars together on a assembly line. people in the south get bashed for not supporting hockey and they are getting 15-20 hr for the same jobs but better quality. all i can say is u union people better get ready for the real world. the gravy train is leaving the station. congress just told u that today. when ure team loses corporate support will see how long before hockey town goes down.

This is not new news. Caz, these tickets have been offered all year long: it has nothing to do with disposable income. And who in the league sells out again?

Nik, this has nothing to do with the Red Wings being a model franchise but more about the struggling auto industry. It's no coincidence that GM and Ford recently reported huge third quarter losses and many jobs may be impacted. Also, these prices are only for December and January when people have less disposable income before and after the holidays. Don't you think they would charge the full amount for tickets if they were at full capacity? Instead of having a few hundred empty seats, it makes perfect sense to fill those seats with cheap tickets and generate more revenue from concessions.

Wonder why they are a model franchise? It is stuff like this that makes them great.

hey, i just tell it like it is. dont blame the economy for detriots problems. most of the league is seeing increased attendance. the auto industry has done this mess to themselves and have no one else to blame, the team still shouldnt be having to sell $9 tickets with the metro size and tradition of detroit hockey. i dont want to see anyone lose their jobs. i was just stating that the wages they pay have made the product to expensive to compete. everybody outside the area has seen that for years. a bailout will not solve the problems.
