The Hockey News’ player of the week for Nov. 3-9 is Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo.
In the wake of Martin Brodeur’s injury and all the chatter it caused about who will start for Team Canada in 2010, Luongo made an early stab at sewing up the job with three shutouts in three games last week.
Luongo stopped all 81 shots directed his way during victories against Nashville, Phoenix and Minnesota.
The shutouts were third, fourth and fifth of the season for Luongo, raising his NHL total to 43, fourth amongst active goaltenders behind Brodeur, Curtis Joseph and Chris Osgood.
