The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Oct. 13 to Oct. 19 is Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In consecutive games against Washington and Toronto, Malkin torched the competition for a combined seven points, including a four-assist performance against the Maple Leafs.
Last week's spurt put Malkin on top of the NHL’s leaderboard with 10 points and was no doubt bolstered by a reuniting of the skillful Russian with his Canadian counterpart, Sidney Crosby, on the top line.
