BOSTON - Jonathan Sim tipped home a shot by defenceman Thomas Pock with 6:01 left Saturday, lifting the New York Islanders to a 3-1 victory over the Boston Bruins in a pre-season game.

Sim scored his second goal of the pre-season as the Islanders raised their record to 4-2 with their second win over the Bruins. Pock was acquired on waivers from the New York Rangers earlier this week.

Mike Comrie added an empty-net goal in the final minute as the Bruins fell to 2-4-1 on the pre-season.

The Islanders are coached by former Providence Bruins coach Scott Gordon, who left the Boston organization Aug. 12 to take over behind the New York bench.

Former Bruins goalie Joey MacDonald stopped 28 shots for the win. Boston's Tim Thomas had 33 saves.

Zdeno Chara, playing in only his second game after off-season shoulder surgery, scored his second power-play goal to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead 3:14 into the second period. The goal was scored after MacDonald lost his goaltender's stick and was playing with a standard stick given to him by a teammate.

Patrice Bergeron, who is coming back from a severe concussion and broken nose last Oct. 27 that forced him to miss 72 regular-season games and the playoffs, assisted on Chara's goal and has a goal and five assists in five games during the pre-season.

Doug Weight got that goal back for the Islanders, also on the power play, with his first of the pre-season at 12:40 of the middle period.

Both teams have one pre-season game remaining. The Bruins visit Washington Sunday before they open the regular season at Colorado on Thursday night. The Islanders, who open at New Jersey on Friday night, are at Florida on Monday night.
