With training camps starting, here's a refresher on who ended up where

Jason Spezza tried his best to keep track.

The Ottawa Senators forward kept an eye on NHL transactions during the off-season but conceded during a recent interview that he wasn't sure exactly who ended up where.

"There's so much movement," said Spezza. "I picked up the Hockey News a couple weeks ago, you look and it's like, 'Oh, this guy's there, this guy's there.'

"A lot of guys switched teams and some fly under the radar."

With training camps opening this week around the NHL, we've put together a primer to try and help Spezza (and each of you) get a better handle on which players will be wearing new uniforms this season.

I'd like to know how Nashvilles AHL team is going to fare this year. I look at their roster and Cringe! And there are many faces to the stars, Pick One!

I'm with you, nucksfan5, I seem to remember a small item or two in THN about some guy named McCabe. He left some faceless team and is, what, out of hockey now? No one aquired him I guess.

I agree with Etienne, I don't think the really meant much by the term "faceless". I think the Stars are still in a sort of transition from the Modano era to the Morrow era, and nobody has really put their stamp on the team. They don't (to me, at least) really have a team identity yet, whereas most other teams in the league do. For example, you know Boston or New Jersey are going to play tight defence, Detroit will keep the puck away all game, and the Rangers are kinda flashy and fancy. Nothing springs right to mind with the Stars. Plus, you never really hear about anything the Stars say or do if you are outside of Texas, other than Brett Hull dropping a quote here and there, and it's kind of wrong to build your team around your GM. P.S. If you read the byline, you'll see the article was from the Canadian Press, and that nobody at THN wrote it, so your ire at THN is kinda misplaced.

THN Staff - If Leino is listed on Detroit's new additions, you should also include Janne Pesonen for the Penguins.

I think by "faceless", he meant "without a legitimate media darling/superstar".

Yah, I'm with you two. I had a mid-nineties Pro-set hockey card when they ran the "Franchise" series for Mike Modano, pretty sure he still plays there; also don't they have that guy who led Tampa to their only Stanley Cup...oh yah Brad Richards, and Sergei Zubov I think he's usually mentioned in the Norris running. Wait isn't their GM one of the best pure goal scorers ever, whats his name....sh!t oh yah, Brett Hull. Then they've got that Riberio guy who was all over the Canadian media for being a wash-out and then lit the ice on fire in texas. Brendan Morrow and Marty Turco are also reasonably well known and then you've got Stephan Robidas who went through the playoff run with a broken face (so he actually was kind of faceless). Yah, I can't name one player on that team.

I agree with your assessment of what he meant Etienne. But the issue with his statement: is Dallas may not have a headline grabber, but there are at least ten teams in the league with less notable players than Dallas. So to apply the tag faceless to Dallas is just a lazy segue into, but now Sean Avery plays there so we'll have easy stories to write about Dallas. Which is a shame because Dallas will have some interesting story lines this year, but all we'll hear is "Fabian Brunnstrum fails to build Rocket Ship and cure cancer in first year in the NHL" and "Sean Avery annoys opposing player and gets assist in 4-1 win"
