Flyers sign free agent goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin to one-year deal

PHILADELPHIA - Free agent goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, the club announced Thursday.

The five-foot-11,180-pound netminder appeared in 19 regular season games for the Los Angeles Kings last season, posting a 5-6-1 record and 3.19 goals-against average.

"Jean-Sebastien is a veteran goalie with quality NHL experience," said GM Paul Holmgren in a statement. "We feel his experience, along with his ability as a goaltender, makes him an ideal fit for our organization."

Aubin also appeared in 12 AHL games last season, compiling a 6-4-0 record and 2.02 GAA with the Manchester Monarchs and Portland Pirates. He had a 9-3 record and 2.30 GAA in 12 playoff games as Portland advanced to the AHL's Eastern Conference Finals.

"I'm happy to come to a great organization like the Flyers," said Aubin, 31. "I know a lot of the guys on the team. They have a lot of faith in me and it is a really good fit for me to come here."

In 218 career NHL regular season games over nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins (1998-99 through 2003-04), the Toronto Maple Leafs (2005-06 and 2006-07) and the Kings (2007-08), Aubin has compiled an 80-83-16 record, 2.93 GAA and seven shutouts.

Sorry mike. I'm glad you agree with the comment though. Your comment was good. Totally right about our 'keepers in the minors not being ready. Keep the faith.

Aubin is insurance in case Nitty's out longer then expected. As long as it's a two way contract, he can help the Phantoms once Nitty is ready. Homer acted pretty fast on this. Ouelette is in camp on a tryout. To bad Hedberg's with the Thrashers organization and Boucher with the Sharks. I'd be happier with one of the two. Nitty won't go to Russia. On a lot of other teams, he'd be the starter instead of 1A. I seem to recall he's UFA next year. I'd like to keep him. Oh, I didn't see an article here yet but Hatcher is officially starting the season on LTIR.

As soon as Nitty gets healthy to play again he will go back to being the back up to Biron, and Aubin will be the starter to the Phantoms. Nitty isnt going to russia hes much better then Aubin, not saying hes not good but Nitty is younger and Biron isnt no spring chicken. The Flyers need a decent back-up while nitty is recovering and Monroe, Teslak or Duchesne arent really NHL ready. Plus Aubin could lead the Phantoms to another Calder cup.

...and Nitty's off to Russia. Maybe once he gets healthy, but next summer the latest. Mark my words.

Nitty to Russia? :( I hope not. He's a really good goaltender. I have heard of Aubin but not that much. They had to get someone though since Nitty will be out 4-6 weeks already.
