OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators signed forward Brad Isbister to a one-year, two-way contract on Thursday.

Isbister, 31, had 11 points (6-5) in 55 games with the Vancouver Canucks last season. He has 222 points (106-116) in 541 career NHL games with Phoenix, the New York Islanders, Edmonton, Boston, the New York Rangers and Vancouver.

The Edmonton native was a third-round draft choice, 67th overall, by the Winnipeg Jets in 1995.

Izzy was one of the most inconsistent hockey players during his WHL years. He could be the best player on the ice or the worst. To be honest, I only seen him play 1 game (out of the 8 I watched that year) as a Winterhawk and he was totally outplayed by Adam Deadmarsh nightly. Ken Hodge felt Izzy had more potential than anyone on that team to tear up hockey. I could see some moments of glimmer. But he was outplayed by several of his Winterhawk teamates on a nightly basis (Dave Scatchard, Jason Weimer, Adam Deadmarsh) just because they played and he didn't. As for his NHL career, he certainly plays a lot more. As for being consistent in the NHL, he sure could be better. He really never lived up to his potential and he had a ton of it. Out of that group of Winterhawks, Adam Deadmarsh probably did the most and I wasn't sure he would make the NHL. I was terribly wrong, but I never thought Brendan Morrow would make it in the NHL, either. Brendan battled weight issues for most of his WHL career. He turned into a far better NHL player than I ever imagined and I would say better than Izzy to this point......

I don't get it either although it sounds pretty funny. And to everyone telling Nucks fan to stick with his team through the ups and downs, that is hard when there are only downs.I can only think of two ups in the entire history of the team.

EBGB, I.m a Flyerfan from Mb. I've met fans from Sweden, Finland, etc. BTW, your comment didn't make any sense. I guess you heard the line and couldn't wait to use it.

hey nucks fan....i don't understand something,if you were a fan of a team you support them....no matter the ups and downs...leafs fans are a great example, they have been falling off the map for years and still people support them...by no means am i a leafs fan...i hate em...but at least they stick it out...i am a red wings and ottawa fan but that doesn't mean we don't have our ups and downs....the red wings could be the worst team in the league (haha)in ten years and i will still bleed red and white...that's called a fan...not somebody that jump's ship as soon as there's trouble...so if ottawa does brutul in the play-offs again who you gonna jump to eh? florida?

I'm hoping this isn't supposed to be a "top-six" forward the Sens where looking for. As long as he's not supposed to fill that hole in the roster then this is a good signing.

I have been a proud Canucks fan my whole life, and will remain one, and I fully recognise we are going to be a long time waiting before anything decent hits the ice in this city. But any 20 year Canuck fan who isn't already used to this pattern is a twit. It 's like cheering for the Cubs or Seahawks, you don't expect to win, but every once in a while they'll pick themselves up take a long run, get everyone excited and fall just short. As Detroit fans have demonstrated this past year, clearly winning every night isn't all that much fun since they all stopped showing up. So go ahead 'Nucks Fan, pass up your tickets and watch the Oilers on the old boob-tube it just means I can stretch out my legs on the old band wagon while I wait for the next fluke run, but you've wasted a 20 year investment. Red Sox fan waited almost a century to cash in and look at them now. So bugger off 'Nucks Fan, just don't try and get back on this band wagon when the team finds it's footing again (probably once Aquillini and Gillis move on) because you're not welcome. Enjoy Oil country you Poser. Go Canucks Go!

Nucks fan, I feel your pain. The trick is to find a real hockey team to actually care about and then you can sit back and enjoy the Canuck's circus. If they win you can enjoy the fleeting moment, when they lose you have nothing invested.I still take a interest in them as I'm from Van and live in Victoria but I no longer get too worked up about anything they do.I still say give Gillis a chance though, this may take a year or two to correct but with Roberto in goal and a top group of d men(if they stay healthy) there is a little glimmer of hope there somewhere.

“I was coming in to take the boards away and had some good jump. He bobbled the puck at the last second and I don’t think he saw me coming at all. It was a shoulder right in his chest. He’s eight feet tall, so it’s not like you could hit him in the head.”
