Los Angeles Kings sign forward Jarret Stoll to four-year deal

LOS ANGELES - Jarret Stoll is ready to start life with a new NHL team.

The 26-year-old forward agreed to a US$14.4-million, four-year contact with the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. The Kings acquired Stoll from Edmonton in June as part of the trade that sent Lubomir Visnovsky to the Oilers. Stoll was selected in the second round of the 2002 draft by Edmonton and spent the past four seasons in the Alberta capital.

In 286 career regular-season games, he has 59 goals and 165 points.

Thanks Stilts and Mario, It's appropriate that the "other leagues" suddenly notice our team...as if...the curse of montreal on all of them!!! I couldn't be more thrilled that articles on our Kings are drying up and the absolute morons who think we are their garbage can for trades like the bulin swamp )ya, right) are finally disappearing back into their armchairs. The less said about our guys, the better! It's fun to have a meeting place to talk, but the SI jinx is just sitting there waiting for it's next victim-let's not have it upon us anymore! As already mentioned, NO PRESSURE ON OUR GUYS/NOTHING TO LOSE. I can't imagine a better scenario...and as Mario said, the caps fans will crawl back into their toilet as soon as the Caps slip back into anonymity...they always have and will. You'd think with all the phony money they're printing there, the Caps could fill their seats every night? LOL And, ya, to bad for the Blues...my heart just bleeds for them...but Andy knows all about having teams decimated by injuries...I think a record was set while he coached our Kings...a who's who of the NHL way back when. Ya know, I was thrilled for the Mighty Ducks when they won the Stanley Cup, but I had no idea what a bunch of jerk-off fans they had. I guess they bought into the "man-made" rivalry crap. So remember the arrogance you folks created when the Kings reach the level the Ducks once had...of course, the CAP will take care of that situation soon enough...in fact, it's already begun to eat away at them. So keep that oxygen mask handy mike m...you'll need it when you lose both your GM and that top notch rating. Besides, the seats suck at the duck pond! Meanwhile, good luck to Stoll and Greene. I think it will be fun having some guys fresh in from Edmonton getting a chance to experience perfect weather and a city that is full of life and awesome beaches. just hope they don't forget about playing hockey LOL GO Kings!

M. SANCHEZ-Press the CAPS LOCK button and turn off the all caps, please. Mike M.- enough with the Lombard/AEG bashing. Like them or not, the Kings finally have some kind of ownership/front office stability. Leave it be and let them do their job. Paul-Of course the Kings aren't expecting to or planning to make the playoffs this year. If we do, it would be a pleasant surprise but Lombardi isn't counting on it. Just sit back and enjoy watching the youth grow and learn. Soon enough the Kings will be THE power in the West.

Dean Sucks He moved Lubo for 2 simple reasons to cut pay roll and Lubo had a full no trade clasue kick in on July 1 of this year and he did not want to be on the hook for 7 mill for the next 4 years PLAIN AND SIMPLE John Tavaras start house hunting in the South bay Now FIRE DEAN AEG PLEASE SELL THE TEAM TO A OWNER WHO CARES

"Nikhcevo Xela dna Mortskcab S" ... You are so right, we did leard all this crap in grade school. That is why you traded for our old NetMinder who blotted from that hell hole we call the Capitals home, To play in a town were hockey fans actually know something about the game... See here Kings fans may not be as strong as over night sensations as the CRap FANS sorry I ment CAP FANS!!! You still sat there reading every word I wrote... You and that QUACK fan can sit together and hold hands wondering what happen to all those fans as yourself went when you start losing again. So now go Caps.... What a Joke! hey L.A. Kings can I borrow some of that water for this guy!!!!

steve drysdale (Posted 2008-09-05 18:34:56)
Stoll will earn that contract in front of his girly friend, and Greener is tough as nails.... good trade for both teams, just hope Lubo can still carry that puck...............................

Nikhcevo Xela dna Mortskcab S (Posted 2008-09-05 18:01:36)
MARIO SANCHEZ. I think we learned in kindergarten that words at the beginning of the sentence and proper nouns start with capital letters. Everything else is lower case. And I doubt Dean Lombardi will read your post. Notice how D and L are capitalized. Speaking of capitilization GO CAPITALS!!

Flake (Posted 2008-09-05 17:19:13)
Oh yeah and Ducks fans, Detroit has the Cup so shouldn't you be jumping bandwagons by now? At least Kings fans stick with their team even through tough times!!! I'd rather watch the Kings rebuild for 10 yrs than be a Ducks fan for one night....

Flake (Posted 2008-09-05 17:12:47)
Aside from money matters, Blake and Visnovsky would have been excellent groomers for our young defense. The Kings need a veteran D-man to take Johnson, Hickey, Doughty and Teubert under his wing and show them the way.

L.A. KINGS (Posted 2008-09-05 16:48:43)
Oh and one more thing PAUL. As far as the KINGS letting go of FLAKE i mean BLAKE....your gonna tell me that it the KINGS should have signed 38 year old Blake for 1 year for 5 million like the sharks did?? 5 MILLION? REALLY??? Just goes to show that this QUACK fan has no clue what he is talking about. These guys are instant over night hockey fans.... JUST ADD WATER!!!

M.SANCHEZ (Posted 2008-09-05 16:12:13)
HEY LAKINGS, YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THAT OUR OWNERSHIP IS OUT OF JAIL AND NOT IN IT... SORRY QUACK BUT IT'S TRUE!!!!

L.A. KINGS (Posted 2008-09-05 16:03:47)
Look here Paul the Kings most likely will not make the the playoffs this year. They are re-building. You mean you did not know that???? Where have you been??? Just stick to your quacks and dont even comment on the Kings because it obvious you dont have a clue what your talking about. Oh and as far as Visnovsky being a 50 to 60 point getter....so is STOLL. GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!!

MARIO SANCHEZ (Posted 2008-09-05 15:49:35)
$3.6 A SEASON OVER THE NEXT 4. NOT A BAD MOVE BY DEAN, ALSO THIS LOCKS HIM IN FOR THE NEXT FOUR. DON'T THINK THE KINGS ARE IN THE WORKS TO GET INTO THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR. BUT MAYBE JUST MAYBE NEXT YEAR. WITH STOLL IN PLACE TO COVER FOR CAMMY WHO WANTED 6 MILLION A YEAR. NOT BAD. PLUS WE ALSO GOT GREENE FOR LUBO... YES LUBO WAS A BELOVED KING AND A PROVEN VETERAN. HOWEVER THIS IS A BUSINESS DO YOU HONESTLY THINK DEAN WANTED TO GET RID OF LUBO HIS ONLY AND LAST VETERAN ON THE BLUE LINE. DON'T THINK SO. BUT HOCKEY IS ALWAYS TICKING IN THIS MANS HEAD. HE EATS, BREATHS AND SLEEPS HOCKEY. IF HIS WIFE IS OK WITH THAT THEN MAYBE JUST MAYBE KINGS FAN SHOULD GIVE HIM A CHANCE AS MANAGEMENT HAS. QUESTION SHOULD NOT BE DID HE OVER PAY HIM, RATHER THAN WHY HAVEN'T YOU PAID SULLY WHAT HE IS DUE? THE KINGS WENT YOUNG ON US (the fans) BUT THEN AGAIN SO DID THE PENGUINS A FEW YEARS BACK AND THEY HAD BACK TO BACK SEASONS GETTING HIGH PICKS IN THE DRAFT. SOON AFTER THAT THEY MADE THE PLAYOFFS. LOST AND THEN ONE MORE YEARS OLDER AND A BIT MORE MATURE GUESS WHAT THEY TOOK THE MIGHTY REDWINGS TO THE LIMIT. NOW IF THE KINGS CAN DO SO FROM WITH IN. LIKE DEAN IS DOING I WOULD JUST SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE ENERGY THE KIDS WILL BRING TO STAPLES CENTER THIS YEAR. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THEY ALL KNOW THEY HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE AND EVERYTHING TO GAIN. FROM PLAYING TIME TO CONTRACT EXTENSSIONS... END OF STORY AND NOW DEAN IF YOU READ THIS GET ON THE BALL AND SIGN THOSE THAT ARE LEFT BEFORE THEY GET AWAY...

Dave (Posted 2008-09-05 13:43:12)
To be fair, I don't think you can solely judge Stoll based on his salary/pt. He's a great face-off man, can play the point on the powerplay if required, also a fairly good penalty killer. Edmonton has enough centers without him, and really needed a puck moving defenseman knowing they were about to trade away Pitkanen.

Paul (Posted 2008-09-05 13:28:47)
Trading away Visnovsky was a mistake , he was a proven 50-60 point getter and one of the best puckhandling defenseman in the league . Letting Blake go was another goof . Are the Kings really serious about making the playoffs this year ? Thank God we always follow the Ducks which will have a strong team again this year.

Oil Country (Posted 2008-09-05 13:23:03)
Maha....do you know Penner, Souray, Pisani and Gilbert. All are 100k/pt players. Lombardi overpaid Stoll to get closer to the cap minimum.

Jay Toborowsky (Posted 2008-09-05 07:45:30)
How confusing it'll be when LA plays Phoenix, and Jarrett Stoll is playing against Jared Staal!

maha (Posted 2008-09-05 00:50:12)
Lowe would not ink a contract that pays a forward $100,000 per point. It's not a matter of can't pay the guy. It was a won't pay that much situation.

Dave (Posted 2008-09-05 00:34:58)
Maha you don't know what you're talking about. Edmonton has a lot of players who are paid more than $14M over 4 years. They also have a multi-billionaire owner

will head (Posted 2008-09-05 00:13:17)
they are going to love him in lotus land this guy was rated the leagues most underated player in the league just a few years ago a bad concussion put him out of touch for a couple of seasons but he will come back fast he is not under payed by no means

Sam (Posted 2008-09-04 22:43:01)
A bit pricey but could really payoff.

Seb (Posted 2008-09-04 21:50:26)
A bit overpaid but a good sign. He had 68 points a few years back and might be able to do it again but I think he's more or less a 50 points guy. Another upside is it brings LA close to cap min. But I'm not sure he's worth 3.5 millions +.

t-bone (Posted 2008-09-04 21:34:19)
I think Stoll is capable of more than what he has accomplished. He's only making $100,000/season than Jeff Finger, I'd take the Stoll contract over that any day of the week!

maha (Posted 2008-09-04 20:56:24)
There is no way he would have made that kind of money in Edmonton. He was the kind of guy who has all the tools to be an exceptional player, but somehow never scored. He's not a new player. He's about as good as he's ever going to be. Lombardi will have many years to think about this project.

daniel (Posted 2008-09-04 20:13:24)
they have a good signing in stoll who will definetly help on the powerplay point or as a center. glad they signed him to four years and that makes them a little closer to the cap minimum. now all we need is O'Sullivan to come around. i'm hoping a 4 year maybe 5 year deal with him also.
