DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings signed tough-guy right wing Aaron Downey to a one-year contract on Wednesday.

Downey played with Detroit last season and appeared in 56 regular-season games. He has spent parts of eight seasons with the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Montreal Canadiens.

In his career, Downey has collected seven goals, nine assists and 487 penalty minutes.

For sure, Terry, but you know what I meant.

mac can't even stand up on his skates...downie is the future. hurts to see a duck getting his head smashed by a wing, but how is O'donnell a clown? or do you just picture Pronger's head on any duck player you see?

I would much rather see Downey on the ice than Mac any day. Mac's days are over with and you could see this last year. Downey could atleast catch guys to run them and antagonize. Mac really doesnt have it any more.

does my heart good to see a picture of a Redwing kicking the butt of a Duck.... especially that clown..

Terry (Posted 2008-08-22 11:58:06)
Hey guitar man. If Mac retired, it would be with 4 Cups. He would have just retired the year after he won 1.

Sean, Downey is two enforcers.

Phil,I truly couldn't have said it any better. I'm so proud he got what hard work will get ya'. He is a sincerly genuine gentelman,(off the ice and on, beleive it or not). I never saw him not pat a guy on the back after a good fight. As you said, his heart and passion is indeed second to none. Good luck Aaron.

Phil (Posted 2008-08-22 01:22:51)
Great signing of a great guy. He's a player with tremendous heart and passion. Someone who is where he is because of truly hard work!

Not bad for a guy who gave up potato farming to fight his way back to playing at the NHL level. All the best to this enforcer!

Sean (Posted 2008-08-21 07:18:03)
You need at least two enforcers.

Chelios is UFA

I'm a fan of Big Mac's but even I have to say this would be McCarty's cue to hang 'em up. Better to go out with a Cup ring than finish in the minors.

kenny (Posted 2008-08-20 15:31:31)
great signing we need and enforcer on the ice that is willing to throw the gloves down for anybody. have the wings re-signed chelios yet i havent heard anything about him in a long time?

Douglas (Posted 2008-08-20 12:58:41)
McCarty hasn't yet retired, but the Wings don't need him.

Mike (Posted 2008-08-20 12:11:18)
Did Darren McCarty retire? Wonder if he'll be back... probably not.

phil (Posted 2008-08-20 11:37:06)
good signing, as long as he doesn't play too much.
