BOSTON - The Bruins signed defenceman Dennis Wideman to a multiyear contract extension on Wednesday.

Wideman had career bests last season with 13 goals and 23 assists in 81 games with Boston. He was the No. 2 scoring defenceman to captain Zdeno Chara and sixth overall on the team.

He had three assists in six playoff games for the Bruins last season.

AWESOME SIGNING . I THINK AFTER LAST YEARS NUMBERS AND PLAY HE DESERVES IT.....

I like Wideman. Unfortunately, he will always be associated with Boyes, but do not forget he is still pretty young and inexperienced. He clearly has the offensive side of his game down, but I agree he could polish up his D. That being said last season was his first full in Boston and like everybody was under a new coach. Chances are good he will be more comfortable this season. Oh and SEE YOU LATER MURRAY. Three years to late, but at least it is done.

Murray is no loss.

The report had been close to $4 million. There is a lot of improving to do for Wideman and hopefully soon. As the team's second defenseman and having had Boyes dealt for him this is turning out to be a stinker if Wideman cannot do more than he has. He makes a lot of mistakes and shaky plays in his own end in my opinion and the offense provided is not enough to balance out the misplays. On top of it the signing will cost them Murray who they waived to make room.

A good move for the B-s...but how much does the contract worh? Chara-Wideman an excellent pairing. Dennis will improve even more, I think.
