Former NHL defenceman and coach Mike Milbury joins CBC as analyst

TORONTO - Outspoken former NHL defenceman, coach and general manager Mike Milbury has signed on as an analyst with Hockey Night In Canada, the CBC announced Monday.

The 56-year-old Milbury will join the show's broadcast team as an analyst and a regular on The Hot Stove, a panel discussion during the second intermission of the early game of HNIC's Saturday night doubleheaders.

"His experience as an NHL player and executive is reflected in an entertaining on-air style," HNIC executive producer Sherali Najak said in a statement.

Milbury, a native of Brighton, Mass., had 238 points and 1,552 penalty minutes as a defenceman for 12 seasons with the Boston Bruins. He later coached the Bruins, then moved to the New York Islanders where he was general manager for 11 years and had three stints as coach.

Milbury worked as a studio analyst on TSN last season.

A few comments on announcers:Glenn Healy was a bitter bastard.Bob Cole must retire,he can't read the numbers on the jerseys.PJ Stock has small man syndrome, that's why he yells.Glen Millen couldn't scratch his butt if he had a handful of fish hooks! On Milbury:What's wrong with drinking during games? I do it all the time.Cheers!!!!

Mike always has an axe to grind and it is usually directed at the NY Rangers organization due to his inability to compete in the NY market while working for the 2nd (or 3rd) fiddle team in the Metro area. His bias against anything Rangers is so obvious that he has zero credibilty as an objective journalist. His defamatory remarks about Jagr last season exposed his whole agenda. Jagr is a legend of the game and desrves respect, unlike the half in the bag Milbury who was seen by far too many Long Islanders in liquor stores in Garden City getting enough hooch to fill his snoot. He's an immature disgrace to the game who must have pictures of a CBC exec. in a compromising posiiton in order to get this new posiiton. Jags had it right, Mike Milbury can kiss his ass!! He'll self destruct in his new position.

Hey bcran1- are you related to Milbury? Name one of his moves that was motivated by money. Bertuzzi/Mccabe/Linden? no. Luongo? no.Yashin/Spezza(draft pick) no again. The only saving grace on Milbury is I can use him to deflect criticism away from the way Bob Clarke did his job(not even close to being in Milbury's league)

Hey Babe...I'm available, why didn't CBC call me? I think if I can dish it on Monday Night Football with the big boys then HNC should be more fun than trading Paki jokes with Pierre Trudeau while Hunter Thompson tosses a salad....whaddya say fellahs, am I in?

I am not sure who at CBS came up with this. MM is the most incompetent, arrogant moron who also happen to know very little about hockey. He successfully demonstrated this fact with many years as an on/off coach, manager and Islanders franchise destroyer… In addition his past broadcasts and comments were laughable and very out of context. If CBS is after humor or a clown, perhaps Ronny McD would be a better choice. On the second though, however he fits the clown role perfectly. I wonder what connection MM has to come up with these contracts.

Maybe you should know that it is CBC that hired him and not CBS. He may be a little abrasive...but we should be thankful that he is doing some broadcasting instead of rebuilding a team over a period of 25 years

WoW everyone is cranky, i agree that he is not the best but come on he played, coached and managed at the highest level [THE NHL] and how many you can say that. Mad Mike brings a different perspective to the HNC telecast and yes is full of hot air at times, but the same can be said with any other insider. We the fans of tsn, sportsnet and hnc and the hockeynews are the most intelegent hockey minds in the world and we feed and respond possitivally and negative too anything that is hockey...

Millbury to CBC...great, take Pierre McGoo back there too and revoke his passport - that is if you can even find him hiding up Sid Crosby's butt. The tinfoil I wrap around my head to keep McGoo's broadcasts away doesn't seem to work anymore...maybe relocating Millbury to CBC will help.

Matt, CBC picked up Joe Bowen? You're kidding me, right? Wow, I guess I won't be watching games on CBC at all this season. Flyer guy 16, you do make a good point on Millen, I despise his analysis too. Stock just ALWAYS SEEMS LIKE HE'S YELLING AT ME. It grates on my nerves.
