Oilers sign goaltender Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers to two-year contract

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers goaltending picture is set.

The NHL team has signed 24-year-old goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers to a two-year contract.

Drouin-Deslauriers spent last season with AHL Springfield and had a 26-23-5 record with a 2.90 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.

He's expected to battle Mathieu Garon and Dwayne Roloson for playing time next season.

"Jeff made some significant strides last season and now appears ready to challenge for a spot on our hockey club," Oilers VP Kevin Prendergast said in a statement. "With Jeff's addition, we are very comfortable with our goaltending situation."

Drouin-Deslauriers was a second-round draft choice by Edmonton in 2002 and has spent the last four seasons in the AHL.

I've read that Deslauriers dropped the "Drouin" portion of his last name in the off-season, so he now officially goes by Jeff Deslauriers, which should leave more than adequate room to fit his entire name on the back of the jersey.

What about Vanbeisbrouck back in the day? He wasn't a big guy either, so they had to stitch on that long name on a not-so-big jersey...

It's the old Buchberger problem... Poor Bucky had his name starting to go down his arms... I know D-D just goes by Deslauriers but that's just as bad...

Thats nice and all but im wondering how they're going to fit this guy's name on his jersey. Poor guy. Maybe they'll just put "jeff" on the back and hope everybody knows why.

“I was coming in to take the boards away and had some good jump. He bobbled the puck at the last second and I don’t think he saw me coming at all. It was a shoulder right in his chest. He’s eight feet tall, so it’s not like you could hit him in the head.”
