Angelo Esposito signs entry-level contract with Atlanta Thrashers

Angelo Esposito is going to have a chance to play in the NHL next season.

The 19-year-old has signed an entry-level contract with the Atlanta Thrashers.

Esposito had 69 points (30-39) in 56 games with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season.

He also appeared in one game for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL in the spring.

The Pittsburgh Penguins originally selected Esposito 20th overall in 2007 before trading his rights to the Thrashers to help land Marian Hossa in February.

Jim - the difference between Hossa/Esposito and Nieuwendyk/Iginla is that Joe Nieuwendyk won the Conn Smythe for Playoff MVP during the Stars' Stanley Cup run in '99. Hossa and the Pens didn't win the Cup. Trading the future for the Cup was worth it at the time, and in my opinion, is still worth it for the Stars. It helped entrench hockey as a sport in football country and converted a lot of Stars fans.

Don't worry Pens fans...Esposito will never be anymore than mediocre. Anyway he had three Centers ahead of him whose names are Crosby, Malkin, and Staal.....so where was he gonna play......no worry....

esposito has a long way to go before he even has n.h.l level skill, let alone being a star.he has major commitment issues.think jamie lundmark,or pat falloon.he needs a major attitude adjustment.

Hmmmm. . .could history be repeating itself here? In '95 the Dallas Stars traded the youngster who had been their first-round pick that year to the Flames to get Joe Nieuwendyk (who the Stars did keep for a few more seasons and he did play on their Cup-winning team in '99). But who was that kid who went to the Flames? A chap by the name of Jarome Iginla. You may be onto something here, Thrasher fans.

Penguins will live to rue the day they made that trade...Esposito looks like he could live up to that other player who shares his surname. Would've been nice to see him play with Crosby and Malkin!

Just another reason the Pens fans can cheer for Marian when they play the Wings.
