Free-agent centre Marty Reasoner agrees to deal with Thrashers

ATLANTA - Free-agent centre Marty Reasoner agreed to a one-year, US$1-million deal with the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday after playing with Edmonton for six seasons.

The 31-year-old Reasoner had 11 goals and 14 assists with the Oilers last season. He also has played with Boston and St. Louis during his nine-year career.

The Thrashers also re-signed restricted free agent forward Brett Sterling to a multi-year contract. The 24-year-old played in 13 games last season, his first in the NHL, and scored one goal with two assists.

Sad? Gimme a break. I don't dispute Marty's character, or that he brings good things into the room. On the flipside, I wonder if Marty will miss two empty nets on two breakaways again this year. (Read it again. It's true.) He's decent on the dot, but you'll notice he loses the late faceoffs when it's crunch time. The Oil have outgrown Reasoner, thank goodness MacTavish's insistence to give about 13 minutes a game to Marty will now be given to someone who can do something with it.

this is Sad for Edm. Stoll is gone too. They now have little to No Face-off skill now. Can Anyone tell me why Kevin Lowe still has a job?

I think that was a mistake for Edmonton to not re-sign him. His line godd last year, I think he'll be missed

Valuable character guy. Great on the dot and in his own zone. Good signing for Atlanta. He'll have huge value in their locker room.

“I was coming in to take the boards away and had some good jump. He bobbled the puck at the last second and I don’t think he saw me coming at all. It was a shoulder right in his chest. He’s eight feet tall, so it’s not like you could hit him in the head.”
