Pittsburgh Penguins re-sign Ryan Stone, Kris Beech, Bill Thomas

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forwards Kris Beech, Ryan Stone and Bill Thomas to one-year contracts on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Beech was claimed off waivers from Columbus in January. He had five goals and six assists in 25 games with the Blue Jackets and Penguins before a broken wrist ended his season on Feb. 14.

The 23-year-old Stone played six games with the Penguins last season during three call-ups from the Penguins' American Hockey League team.

Thomas, who played seven games for the Phoenix Coyotes last season, spent most of last season with San Antonio of the AHL.

I would like to wish Kris Beech the best of luck. I think that if he signed with a team that would give him a chance and the ice time, that he could become a solid third line center or maybe a "stretch" second line center given the right situation. The Penguins have three centers that are top notch, but what are his chances of playing within the top three lines? I don't believe that the Penguins are the only team that showed an interest in him. Beech has good size, hands, and play making ability. Kris, if I were you I would consider a new agent, but what do I know?
