Edmonton Oilers sign forwards Pouliot and Jacques to 2-year deals

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers signed forwards Marc Pouliot and Jean-Francois Jacques to two-year contracts on Wednesday.

Both players split last season between the Oilers and the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

Pouliot had seven points (1-6) in 24 games with Edmonton last season. He will receive US$725,000 in 2008-'09 and $925,000 in 2009-'10.

Jacques did not record a point in nine games with the Oilers. Financial terms for his deal were not immediately available.

Am i the only one who thinks this sound a little high for a couple of AHL forwards? The Oilers Have been giving them chances to join the line up for a couple years, and neither of them, Jaques in particular have given any reasons why the should get another shot on a deep roster. They only got to play as many games as they did last season due to Edmonton's injury plagued roster. I guess this is standard in Silly Season though...
