Carolina Hurricanes sign forward Chad LaRose to 1-year contract

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes signed forward Chad LaRose to a US$875,000, one-year contract on Wednesday.

The deal allowed the team to avoid going to salary arbitration with LaRose, who made $500,000 last year.

The 26-year-old LaRose has played three seasons with the Hurricanes. He had 23 points (11-12) in 58 games last season.

General manager Jim Rutherford said he expected the announcement to be the last signing for the team during the off-season.

I am glad the signed LaRose. If he had gone to arbitration the team probably would have walked away from whatever he was awarded. My only concern is that they don't have any room for someone like Sutter or any of the other young guys down in the AHL.

Great news! LaRose is all energy, a physical player, can kill penalties and has a very good scoring touch!
