Washington Capitals sign free-agent goaltender Jose Theodore

WASHINGTON - The Washington Capitals have turned to another former Montreal Canadiens goalie.

The Caps signed free-agent netminder Jose Theodore to a US$9-million, two-year contract on Tuesday.

Washington acquired Cristobal Huet from Montreal at the trade deadline last season and used him as its No. 1 goalie during a first-round playoff loss to Philadelphia.

Huet and backup Olaf Kolzig are both unrestricted free agents.

Theodore spent parts of the past three seasons with Colorado after being dealt there by the Habs.

He had a 28-21-3 record last year and helped the Avs reach the second round of the playoffs.
