Source: Sundin offered $20-million, two-year contract; still weighing options

TORONTO - The free agent market for Mats Sundin is so hot that he might end up earning more money than any other NHL player next season.

A source tells The Canadian Press that the Vancouver Canucks offered the Swedish centre a US$20-million, two-year contract after he became an unrestricted free agent Tuesday for the first time in his career.

Sundin is currently in his native Sweden and still weighing his options.

Sidney Crosby of Pittsburgh and Alexander Ovechkin of Washington currently top next season's salary list at $9 million apiece.

The Canucks were one of four teams to offer the former Toronto Maple Leafs captain a contract.

The 37-year-old Sundin has spent the past 14 years in Toronto and is the franchise leader in goals and points. He had 32 goals and 78 points in 74 games last season.
