ANAHEIM, Calif. - Scott Niedermayer is coming back for another season.
The Anaheim Ducks star defenceman will honour the final year of his contract after once again contemplating retirement.
"Scott met with (Ducks GM) Brian Burke today and made it official," Niedermayer's agent Kevin Epp of Titan Sports Management told The Canadian Press. "He is coming back."
The 34-year-old Niedermayer waited until December last season to come back after winning the Stanley Cup last June. He has one year left on a deal that pays him US$6.75 million.
Niedermayer, a Norris Trophy winner in 2004 and Conn Smythe Trophy winner in 2007, had 25 points (8-17) in 48 games last season. He added two assists in a six-game, first-round playoff loss to the Dallas Stars.

“I was coming in to take the boards away and had some good jump. He bobbled the puck at the last second and I don’t think he saw me coming at all. It was a shoulder right in his chest. He’s eight feet tall, so it’s not like you could hit him in the head.”
- Ottawa's Chris Neil about a hit he threw on Tampa's Victor Hedman Thursday night, causing Hedman to leave the game.
