ANAHEIM, Calif. - Scott Niedermayer is coming back for another season.

The Anaheim Ducks star defenceman will honour the final year of his contract after once again contemplating retirement.

"Scott met with (Ducks GM) Brian Burke today and made it official," Niedermayer's agent Kevin Epp of Titan Sports Management told The Canadian Press. "He is coming back."

The 34-year-old Niedermayer waited until December last season to come back after winning the Stanley Cup last June. He has one year left on a deal that pays him US$6.75 million.

Niedermayer, a Norris Trophy winner in 2004 and Conn Smythe Trophy winner in 2007, had 25 points (8-17) in 48 games last season. He added two assists in a six-game, first-round playoff loss to the Dallas Stars.

Mikko- the nhl season is a long hard grind and their teammates know that they themselves will not play as long as SN & TS, besides there is way more to life than hockey. Glad SN is coming back but would have understood him retiring.

I know Scotty can still play, but his prescence alone breeds winning. 4 cups, Olympic Gold, World Championship, World Cup, Memorial Cup and World Junior Championship. He is the only Hockey player in history to win all six. A legend, who is capable of raising any team's level. The guy just wins!

Hopefully Selanne understands to make his decision also before trade deadline this year. It was really bad call from both of them what they did last season to Ducks. I just can't belive that two players, even though they are pivot players, can be so much higher above compared to rest of the team...

This is certainly great news for the Ducks who missed his presence last year, but on a larger level I think it's great for hockey in general. He certainly is a class act and role model.

Wonder if that wheelchair on skates he's fitted out is legal in the new NHL?

Although he's been with the Ducks just three (2 1/2) seasons, Scotty is the real captain of the team. It's a joy to watch him skate. A class act!
