The Hockey News player of the week for the period of April 21-27 is Detroit Red Wings forward Johan Franzen.
Franzen, who plays both left wing and center, scored five goals in helping the Wings jump out to a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference semifinal series with the Colorado Avalanche.
First, the powerful Swede scored two goals - including the game-winner - and added an assist during a 4-3 Wings win in Game 1. Franzen then notched a hat trick as Detroit whipped the Avs 5-1 in Game 2.
The 28-year-old has seven goals and 10 points in eight playoff games this spring and, overall, Franzen has notched 22 goals in his past 24 games.
