Adam Proteau, Web columnist
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-2 – Canadiens’ power play will punish Flyers’ discipline deficiencies.
Pittsburgh over New York 4-3 – No cakewalk this time for Pens, but Rangers won’t be able to plug Pittsburgh’s big guns.
Detroit over Colorado 4-1 – Jose Theodore, prepare to be exposed.
San Jose over Dallas 4-2 – Sharks’ Evgeni Nabokov was mediocre against Flames, but Stars will see and suffer from his Vezina form this round.

Mike Brophy, Senior writer
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-3 – Canadiens’ speed will wear down the Flyers defense
New York over Pittsburgh 4-3 – Lundqvist gives the Rangers a slight advantage
Colorado over Detroit 4-2 – Jose Theodore is the real deal
San Jose over Dallas 4-2 – The Sharks are only now beginning to roll

Ken Campbell, Senior writer
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-2 – The Flyers are far better than the Bruins, but the Canadiens will be a better team in the second round than they were in the first.
Pittsburgh over New York 4-2 – Here’s hoping exciting and explosive wins out over boring and effective.
Detroit over Colorado 4-0 – Just a hunch, but it says here the Red Wings will prick the Jose Theodore bubble early and once that happens, the floodgates will open and pucks will come rushing through.
San Jose over Dallas 4-3 – At times, San Jose looked as though it didn’t even want to win the series against Calgary and will have all it can handle against a Dallas team playing with purpose.

Jason Kay, Editor
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-1 – Flyers looked too gassed at the end of the Caps series to inspire confidence.
Rangers over Pittsburgh 4-2 – Supreme team defense trumps supreme team offense.
Dallas over San Jose 4-2 – The Stars have finally figured out how to win in the playoffs.
Detroit over Colorado 4-2 – Improved Avs will be a huge challenge for Wings, but home ice will clinch it.

Brian Costello, Senior Special Sections Editor
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-2 – No Kate Smith, no Jason Smith, no way.
Pittsburgh over Rangers 4-3 – This battle will become epic in proportions.
Dallas over San Jose 4-2 – Selective effort won't work against Stars.
Detroit over Colorado 4-2 – Theodore bubble is about to burst.

Ryan Kennedy, Writer/Copy Editor
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-2 - Quick Habs take advantage of leaky Flyers.
Rangers over Pittsburgh 4-3 - Star power cancels out up front; Lundqvist the difference.
Detroit over Colorado 4-1 - Big Red Machine keeps on rollin'.
Dallas over San Jose 4-2 - Stars' toughest test behind them.

Ryan Dixon, Writer/Copy Editor
Montreal over Philly 4-3 - Habs about to hit higher gear.
Rangers over Pittsburgh 4-2 - It'll be a beauty, but Blueshirts will prevail.
Detroit over Colorado in 4-1 - Could get ugly if Theo goes cold.
Dallas over San Jose in 4-2 - Skilled Stars look hungry and angry.

Edward Fraser, THN.com Editor
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-2 – Carey Price won't stumble again.
Pittsburgh over Rangers 4-1 – Just too much fire power for the Blueshirts to handle.
Dallas over San Jose 4-3 – This one's a coin-flip, but I have a bad feeling about the Sharks chances.
Detroit over Colorado 4-2 – Presidents' Trophy winner will come out of the hard-fought tilt.

Rory Boylen, Web content specialist
Philadelphia over Montreal 4-2 – Flyers can bang like Boston, but score a bunch more.
Rangers over Pittsburgh 4-2 – Pittsburgh won’t have it as easy this time.
Colorado over Detroit 4-2 – Jose Theodore is back, Jack.
San Jose over Dallas 4-3 – Roenick is awake and will play a big role, again.

Jamie Hodgson, Art director
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-2 - Battle of the power play units here, Best vs. Best-A. Montreal will improve on their first-round scare.
Pittsburgh over Rangers 4-3 - This is a tough one. Penguins are strong, healthy, rested and fun to watch, Rangers can counter with Gomez and Jagr and King Henrik, if he's on. How about double OT Game 7, Malone from Crosby and Malkin. How's that for a prediction?
Detroit over Colorado 4-2 - Stastny will probably continue to play poorly, because I have him in the playoff pool, thanks buddy.
San Jose over Dallas 4-3 - Who is this J.R. kid? He rules. Big Joe rules. San Jose on home ice rules. I'll take Sharks in a nail-biter.

Matt Filion, Designer
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-2 – Price will stand strong. Koivu leads team to next round.
Pittsburgh over NY Rangers 4-3 – Pittsburgh has too many good players for Avery to handle.
Detroit over Colorado 4-0 – Too young and too fast. Doesn’t matter who’s in net, they only have to make 20 saves a game.
Dallas over San Jose 4-3 – San Jose’s seven game series with Calgary might have worn them down. Dallas is well rested after defeating defending champs.

Caroline Andrews, Publisher
Montreal over Philadelphia 4-2 - Canada will win!
Rangers over Pittsburgh 4-3 - New York goaltending will prevail.
Colorado over Detroit 4-2 - Ex-Montreal goalie will make the difference!
Dallas over San Jose 4-3 - Dallas is simply the better team.

The Stars will beat every team the hockey news predicts to win the cup.

Dennis Schultz (Posted 2008-04-29 18:46:03)
I used there Deep sleepers in my hockey pool two of them one point in sixteen games between Fehr and Backman thank you for the great picks.not.

Marybeth Stachowicz (Posted 2008-04-28 18:27:49)
I find these predictions especially amusing since in the April 8 edition of The Hockey News (p. 12 to be exact), it states "editor Jason Kay and myself (Mike Brophy) are sticking with the Ducks" for SC champions this season! So much for that prediction.....

King Penguin (Posted 2008-04-28 08:28:23)
So what if the Rangers beat the Penguins four time at the Garden this year? For half of those, the Pens were without Fleury and Sid the Kid. The Pens are now healthy and happy. The Penguins are half way to the sweep of the Rangers I have predicted. So sayeth the King Penguin!

Locke (Posted 2008-04-27 20:34:27)
Have any of you even watched the Pens this Year? Lunqvist is a tough cookie indeed, but the Pens can play it any old way. speaking of old, Jagr is old and Gill is huge and that works to the Czech-sellout-SOB's major disadvantage. You want grind hockey you will get it and the Pens will win this very tough series. again.

Louis-Emmanuel (Posted 2008-04-27 09:54:08)
Hello Adam Proteau, I totally disagree with you saying Nabbi sucked in the first round. If it wasn't for him, the Sharks would be playing golf right now. He might have been outplayed by Kippers but he made some keys saves in every game. Its guys like Thornton and Campbell that have to play better if they and their fellow friends want to have any knack at the Stanley Cup. The Stars are a strong defense garrison and San Jose are an offensive one but have not showed it all season and post-season long.

Andrew Clark (Posted 2008-04-26 21:08:33)
Theodore is NOT the real deal

whatsthatsmell (Posted 2008-04-26 21:00:44)
Hey Campbell.... Make up your mind. You look like a genius right now because of your prediction in this article. But you have been flip flopping on the Theodore position. Once you say something, you have to stick to it. You called Theodore a loser, and pointed out his weaknessess, then a week later after Theodore got on a roll, you put out an article about how great he is doing. Now he is bust again, and look how smart you look in this article. Take a position and stick to it, even when you are wrong. Most of the rest of your peers do this, and they recieve no criticism over it. You can NEVER be right all the time, especially with a sport game like this. So once in a while you gotta eat your words.

Chris May (Posted 2008-04-26 12:20:26)
DETROIT REDWINGS doubled col in both shots and hits in game one. I like Sakic but I love the Wings and this is their year if the can stay healthy. I wish Steve Yzerman was still playing :(.

Franklin Cornstalk (Posted 2008-04-26 09:22:55)
I just don't understand the writers who make a living prognosticating and lambasting thiings which sometimes I wonder if they have a clue what they are talking about, I mean have of these guys if not all can't even skate much less play the game, have you ever read someone 's column only to realize they picked it up off the wire to submit it on time. Flyers in 7. Sure the Flyrers looked tired but wouldn't you after a gruelling 7 game series that none of these beat writers gave a chance? When the Parade goes down Broad st. , do me a favor, DON'T be THERE!!!!

matt (Posted 2008-04-26 06:14:46)
it will be offense that wins over defence in the NYR/PIT series

Patrick LeBlanc (Posted 2008-04-25 16:14:09)
Don't get me wrong, but I doubt Philadelphia will get as creamed as most of the writers (save one) picked. Their offensive stars are streaking and their depth is nearly as formidable as that of Montreal's, they should at least go the distance into game 7, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Flyers check their way out of this series on the back another stellar round by Briere.

Facewash (Posted 2008-04-25 08:57:51)
Madman... Very well said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Madman (Posted 2008-04-24 21:08:25)
These are JUST PREDICTIONS! I'm saying this 'cause some loser fan for whatever NHL team is goin' pout and complain about these predictions just because they don't like it. Hockey is played on ICE, not in someone's brain. If you want to predict, go ahead, but don't go complaining about how STUPID another prediction seems to you. The point is, you NEVER know what could happen. So watch the playoff games and DON'T COMPLAIN. Predictions are predictions, but actions speak louder than words.

Gabe Raymond (Posted 2008-04-24 18:53:21)
I didn't think Fraser would take the lead. He'll probably choke in the next round though. My money is on...Kennedy.

Chris Fleming (Posted 2008-04-24 15:32:58)
Half of you picked the Rangers over the Pens? If you're looking for upsets to feel smug about predicting, I would stick with the Avs over the Wings. There is no way the Blueshirts' forwards can match those of the Pens... perhaps 7 years ago maybe, but not now. Despite the regular season record between these two, the Pens' two top lines are exactly that now, while during the regular season the Pens just had the one. And why doesn't anyone talk about the effective D of the Pens? Their D has been their unsung hero all year, especially with Fleury playing the way he did in the first round. The Rangers will be far more difficult than the Sens were for sure, but that does not mean they hold any kind of edge over a very complete Penguins team.
