The Hockey News player of the week for the period of April 7-13 is Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin.

The super sophomore sparked the Penguins offense as Pittsburgh took a 2-0 lead on the Ottawa Senators in its first round series.

Malkin bagged a goal and two assists in Game 1 before playing the role of set-up man with a three-assist performance in Game 2.

The 21-year-old Russian has struck up a deadly chemistry with Czech winger Petr Sykora, as Malkin has drawn the first assist on all three of Sykora's goals in the series.
