Quebec Remparts goalie Jonathan Roy has been suspended seven games and head coach Patrick Roy received a five-game suspension for their involvement in a Quebec Major Junior League brawl Saturday, according to a report.

The son of the legendary NHL goalie ignored officials trying to restrain him at the red line and skated to the other end of the ice to fight Chicoutimi Sagueneens netminder Bobby Nadeau, who had no interest in the tilt.

The fighting began in the second period of Game 2 of the playoff series, with Chicoutimi leading 7-1. There were already 10 players involved in the fighting.

A couple of points: 1. Fines and Suspensions; It would be quite difficult to triple the fine against the younger Roy as they make very little playing junior hockey. The club on the other hand should have gotten a more stiff penalty. Suspenions could/should have been much more stiff. 2. Jon Roy; What a fool any good goalie knows as soon as you cross that centre line your asking for trouble from the league. He would have been further ahead grabbing the player that intercepted him after he beat the Chicoutmi goalie in the first place. This would have been much more intimidating to Chicoutimi. Think about it would you want to go anywhere near his crease after watching him throttle the big goon that came after him? 3. Chicoutimi goalie Bobby Nadeau; Man what were you thinking you could have defended yourself without reprecussions. He skated 200 feet to find you it's not like you met him halfway. 4. Chicoutimi skater; I don't know your name but whatever, you got your ass kicked by a goalie how ridiculous do you feel. 5. Jon Roy again; Very classless act giving the people the finger. If you wanna spit in the opposing fan's faces do it with your play. Which wasn't very good judging by the store.

My daughters used to call Patrick Roy "Boo Hoo Wah" because he's always been a big baby. With his over sized shirts his reputation as an "all-time great" goalie is highly suspect, at best. This recent outburst confirms what Detroit fans have always known -- Roy is a jerk and a loser.

QMJHL is a big joke...seven games is all the league handed down....it should suspend the player for at least one year and possibly the rest of his eligible time in junior...but as we all saw with the bertuzzi incident...there is no justice to be had in hockey at any level.

“Fighting” in hockey was only tolerated as an unavoidable evil. “Brawling” was never part of any game. Even if combat was an official part of the game, rules and weight classes would have to be introduced. The composer of the HNIC theme envisioned combat with nobility: "……I thought of all those guys with all their gear on -- very macho, very fast, like gladiators. I thought it should be very grand, with a lot of dynamics and excitement and machismo attached. I wanted to give that feeling….." What is a challenged player to do? They say “…when in Rome…” - but the Stanley Cup is not in Italy, or Canada for that matter. Maybe the priorities in Canadian Hockey need some rethinking?

Etienne is correct, the QMJHL and the commissioner of this league is running scared that the Roy name is important for the league. They should have showed more courage in suspensions and fines when it comes to these two. I think the commissioner would be better off changing the name to the RHL because it obvious who is getting more preferantial treatment in the QMJHL. I hope the Chicoutmi can beat these clowns out of the playoffs

Dale, do you have any ideas how much Major Junior players make a week? Furthermore, a 12,000 dollar fine is painfully excessive. I'm of the opinion that the suspensions are short, but one thing that should be kept in mind is that these are playoff games and thus are weighed on a differnt scale.

Now Robert, I've got a neutered Standard Poodle. When he doesn't like someone you'd think he was a lion roaring.
