The Hockey News Player of the week for the period of March 3-9 is Washington Capitals left winger Alex Ovechkin.
The dynamic Russian padded his hold on the scoring lead with five goals and 10 points over four games, including a three-goal, five-point game in a 10-2 dismantling of Boston.
His offensive explosion pushed Ovechkin over the 50-goal barrier for the second time in his career. The 22-year-old is the NHL’s leading scorer this year with 54 goals and 95 points in 70 games.
