The lowering age of free agency, the growing number of teams and the ability of today’s players to remain active into their 40s is making Alex Delvecchio’s record unreachable.

Delvecchio spent his entire career with one organization – 24 seasons spanning 1,550 regular season games from 1951 to 1974. Eight other players, including the active Chris Chelios, played more games than Delvecchio, but with at least two teams apiece.

Three active players have a remote chance of catching Delvecchio, but they’d have to remain active and loyal for another three or four seasons.

Here are 10 leaders in games played with one organization.

The top five listed are the all-time leaders, while the bottom five are the active leaders.

10. Shane Doan, Phoenix (Winnipeg), 862 games.

9. Martin Brodeur, New Jersey, 947 games.

8. Nicklas Lidstrom, Detroit, 1,238 games.

7. Mike Modano, Dallas (Minnesota), 1,301 games.

6. Joe Sakic, Colorado (Quebec), 1,343 games.

5. Henri Richard, Montreal, 1,259 games.

4. Ken Daneyko, New Jersey, 1,283 games.

3. Stan Mikita, Chicago, 1,394 games.

2.
Steve Yzerman, Detroit, 1,514 games.

1. Alex Delvecchio, Detroit, 1,550 games.
