Scoring in NHL has always been great!

I need an explination!
Why does everyone want bigger nets and an increase in scoring? The game is exciting and tense! That is the way hockey always has been and always should be!
I find 1-0 scores better games because they are way more exciting than 8-2 victories.
Anybody with me?
