I like the trapezoid and how it limits the goalie’s ability to play the puck, but I say we take the idea one step further.
Remove the trapezoid and change the rule so that goalies can no longer advance the puck out from behind the goal line once it’s behind the net. They can still set it up for their defensemen and they can still play pucks that are in front of the goal line, but anything that goes behind them stays behind them.
I think this would go a long way to increasing the effectiveness of the dump and chase and likely do more for the game than the trapezoid.
