Hey what’s up everyone! Welcome to my blog. I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences with you all during the season.
It has been an exciting few months for me; I had a great summer that included the Super Series win with Team Canada and then came to training camp with the Boston Bruins just hoping to do my best.
I knew it was going to be a tough camp and I tried not to think too much about whether or not I was going to make the first, second or third cuts.
As a 19-year-old rookie, I just wanted to play my style of game and hopefully catch the eyes of the coaches. Sure enough, I survived the first few cuts and ended up making the opening day roster.
That meant I had nine games to prove I deserved a permanent spot with the Bruins or I would rejoin my boys back in Vancouver with the Western League Giants. Don’t get me wrong I would have been happy back in Vancouver, but playing in the NHL is what I’ve been working towards my whole career and was the goal that I set for myself.
I felt I played well during those nine games – had a ‘Gordie Howe Hat Trick’ in one of them with a goal, assist and a fight – and hoped I did enough to show I could hang with the big boys.
The day after my ninth game I met with GM Peter Chiarelli and coach Claude Julien who let me know I would be staying in Boston. I was ecstatic. All of a sudden here I am, living a dream playing for one of the Original Six.
I know I still have a long way to go and a lot of work to put in individually.
Making the team is just the beginning.
As a team, we are off to a decent start, but we know we have a lot of areas to improve on.
I feel we have a great group of guys in the locker room that believe in each other and will fight for one another.
That’s about it for this installment. I’ll have another update soon.
I do want this blog to be an open forum, too, so feel free to shoot any questions or comments to firstname.lastname@example.org
